Listen To ‘Sultans Of Swing’ From Mark Knopfler’s 2005 ‘Shangri-La’ Tour
The performance was part of the band’s show in Salt Lake City, Utah and can now be bought digitally.
Mark Knopfler’s official YouTube page has shared a live version of the Dire Straits classic “Sultans Of Swing,” as performed with his band on their Shangri-La tour of more than 100 dates around the world in 2005.
The performance was part of the band’s July 20 show in Salt Lake City, Utah. That full concert is available to buy digitally in 320kpbs MP3 format via Knopfler’s online store. The Shangri-La tour played over five months and three legs, comprising South Africa, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand; across Europe; and finally a set of North American dates. It totalled 104 shows in 95 cities. Knopfler’s band for the tour included Guy Fletcher on keyboards, guitarist Richard Bennett, Matt Rollings on piano, Glenn Worf on bass, and Chad Cromwell on drums.
Shangri-La is among the albums featured in the upcoming box set Mark Knopfler: The Studio Albums 1996-2007, which will be released on October 1 on 180 gram black vinyl and CD. The 11-LP or 6-CD set will include a download card and six embossed art prints of each of the album covers.
The CD collection will be housed in a deluxe clamshell box featuring the discs in wallets with folded double-sided printed inserts, plus six art cards of each of the album covers. The set includes the Gravy Train: The B-Sides 1996-2007 compilation, which will be making its debut on vinyl. New T-shirts bearing the name of the box set are now also available in the official store, and new turntable slip mats marking the release will be on sale from October 1.
Knopfler celebrated his 72nd birthday on August 12 and, after a family break this month, will be back at his British Grove Studios in west London to continue work on his next studio album.
