The 50 tracks on the set celebrate the entire career of the American originals, back to their early Muscle Shoals recordings via definitive 1970s landmarks to the previously unreleased live performance of “Gimme Three Steps,” from the band’s last show with co-founder Gary Rossington last November.

The 12-inch vinyl-size Fyfty package has a gatefold jacket containing a detailed 40-page booklet, for which the introduction is written by Skynyrd’s longtime friend Cameron Crowe, who reflects: “Through it all, doggedly making one authentically great record after another, Lynyrd Skynyrd had risen through the ranks to become one of America’s greatest bands.”

Liner notes and information on each track is by Detroit rock journalist Gary Graff. A limited edition version of the set, featuring a signed litho print, will be available exclusively via uDiscover and as part of the band’s touring packages.

In the liner notes, Rossington says: “We just kind of notice what’s going on around us and write songs so people relate to them. That’s always been our style. We learned that from Ronnie [Van Zant]; he always had a great way to take a subject and write a cool story around it so people could relate. We’re just trying to keep that going.”

Latter-day frontman Johnny Van Zant says of Rossington: “We miss him so much. What kept me going was calling [him] and having these conversations. He was my cheerleader. So now I’m gonna have to remember his voice to keep my spirits up and keep this thing going…as a tribute, and so people remember him and [Johnny’s brother] Ronnie and all the others who have been part of this.”
