Watch LANY’s Video For ‘If This Is The Last Time’
The trio is joined by their parents in the wistful visual, which comes ahead of their forthcoming LP, ‘Mama’s Boy.’
Los Angeles trio LANY just dropped a moving video for their newest single, “if this is the last time,” off their forthcoming album, Mama’s Boy. Fittingly, the band members tapped their own parents to join them in the black and white visual.
“The idea for “if this is the last time” came to me on a flight to Beijing last summer”, said frontman Paul Jason Klein in a statement. “My uncle Buddy (I have his name tattooed on my arm) is getting older, and I don’t get to see him very much because I’m always working and/or on tour. He’s in good health, but you never know what could happen… and I thought to myself ‘What if the next time I get to see him is the last time I’ll get to see him?’”
He continued, “After moving into 2020 and being thrown into a global pandemic and being faced with a new reality, it became clear to me that finishing and perfecting this song was imperative…that maybe this was a song the world could lean on.”
“If this is the last time” follows single “good guys,” which tackles the heartbreaking push and pull of relationships. Both tracks offer an early taste of Mama’s Boy – the trio’s third studio album, coming later this year via Interscope.
When it came time to write their follow-up to 2018’s Malibu Nights, the group headed to Nashville to work with a variety of acclaimed songwriters, including Dan Smyers from the duo Dan + Shay, Shane McAnally, who contributed to Kacey Musgraves’ Golden Hour, and songwriting power couple Sasha Sloan and King Henry.
Klein in particular found the experience to be deeply impactful – leading him to rediscover a sense of pride for his Oklahoman roots. The result is a sweeping, 14-track musical tribute to home, heritage, and Americana.
