Lady Gaga To Deliver First ‘Chromatica’ Performance at VMAs
The artist is up for nine awards at MTV’s August 30 ceremony.
Lady Gaga was announced as the latest addition to the all-star roster of performers at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards. The August 30 appearance will mark her first live outing for Chromatica.
Gaga will join a high-profile line-up of performers, including BTS, The Weeknd, J Balvin, Doja Cat, Roddy Ricch, Maluma, and CNCO. Gaga’s anticipated set will mark her first for the VMAs since 2013.
Earlier this week, it was announced that the 37th annual MTV Video Music Awards would not take place, as planned, at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. Citing concerns amid the coronavirus, the VMAs will instead “pay homage to the incredible resiliency of New York with several outdoor performances around the City with limited or no audience, adhering to all state and city guidelines.”
Gaga, along with Ariana Grande, leads this years’ nominations. Both artists are in the running for nine awards – including multiple nods for their collaborative single, “Rain on Me.” Gaga is also up for Artist of the Year, as well as Best Quarantine Performance – a new category for 2020, following the soaring popularity of lockdown live-streams.
Chromatica, Gaga’s sixth studio album – and her sixth LP to top the Billboard 200 – marks the pop icon’s triumphant return to her dance music roots. In addition to “Rain on Me,” the acclaimed album features such massive hit singles as “Stupid Love” and “Sour Candy,” featuring BLACKPINK.
Most recently, the artist launched Gaga Radio on Apple Music. Every Friday, fans can tune in to hear Gaga share behind-the-scenes stories about the making of Chromatica, while interviewing “the DJs, divas, and producers who inspired her and helped bring Chromatica to life.” Gaga Radio launched last Friday with guest BloodPop, who served as one of the producers on the album.
