Lady Antebellum Recapture Classic Sound On Eighth Album ‘Ocean’
The album includes the single ‘What If I Never Get Over You’ and a new collaboration with Little Big Town.
Lady Antebellum’s new, eighth studio album Ocean, released yesterday (15) as their first for Big Machine Label Group, is being hailed for its recapture of the country trio’s classic sound. The album includes the singles ‘What If I Never Get Over You,’ released to country radio in May and a top 15 hit on both Billboard’s country sales and airplay charts, and the title song, which came out in September.
The album is the follow-up to 2017’s Heart Break, which went to No. 1 on the country album chart, No. 4 on The Billboard 200 and was a No. 6 success in Australia, and No. 14 in the UK. Ocean is produced by Dann Huff and includes a collaboration with their fellow country stars Little Big Town on ‘The Thing That Wrecks You,’ written by Daniel Tashian of the Silver Seas and rising Nashville artist Tenille Townes with Josh Miller.
Since their formation in Nashville in 2006, Lady Antebellum have achieved career sales of some 18 million records. Their spectacular achievements also include seven Grammy Awards and six CMAs. At last week’s 53rd annual CMA Award ceremony, they performed ‘What If I Never Get Over You’ with Halsey, in a mash-up with her ‘Graveyard.’
Lady A’s Charles Kelley told Entertainment Weekly in a new interview: “We’ve had a lot of different changes in direction and that was inevitable. You’re wanting to explore and grow your sound, and also have some songs that would really lend themselves to live shows, like ‘Bartender’ and ‘You Look Good.’
“But I do think at the core of us, the sound of this record is really what I would say represents us the best,” Kelley continued. “And, that was the conversation we had with, with Dann Huff before we went in the studio: ‘Let’s get back to some of those warm tones.’”
