The release, which marks its vinyl debut, will be on red and yellow splattered vinyl, with a digital download card.
KT Tunstall’s Acoustic Extravaganza, the 2006 album by the multi-platinum, award-winning Scottish singer-songwriter, will be released in a coloured vinyl, heavyweight 180 gram limited edition on 20 September. The release, which marks its debut in the format, will be on red and yellow splattered vinyl, and will contain a digital download card.
Acoustic Extravaganza first appeared in May 2006 and was initially available only via Tunstall’s website. It came in the wake of the spectacular worldwide success of her debut album, 2004’s Eye To The Telescope. The acoustic set, which reached No. 32 on the UK chart, was named after the club night that the artist once ran in Edinburgh.
The ten-track collection, recorded at Vital Spark Studios in December 2005, led off with the new song ‘Ashes’ and featured similarly stripped-down versions of various tracks, many of them lesser-known, in her songbook. It also contained a cover of Beck’s ‘Golden Age,’ from his 2002 album Sea Change.
Among the other tracks on the album were new versions of ‘Girl and the Ghost,’ previously heard on the 2005 single release of ‘Suddenly I See,’ one of the flagship songs from Eye To The Telescope. Other b-sides that Tunstall revisited for the project included ‘One Day,’ from ‘Black Horse and the Cherry Tree’; ‘Boo Hoo,’ from the ‘Other Side of the World’ single; and ‘Universe & U’ and ‘Miniature Disasters,’ acoustic versions of track from the debut album.
In a review of Acoustic Extravaganza as a new release, the Scotsman wrote: “Radiating suitable warmth and intimacy and a bluesy tilt to the arrangements, the fruits of the session include the effortlessly sultry ‘Boo Hoo,’ the limited edition single ‘Throw Me A Rope,’ and a faithful cover of Beck’s ‘Golden Age,’ all featuring Tunstall in beguiling voice.”
As she continues a busy year of touring, Tunstall is currently on the road in the US guesting with Squeeze, with dates continuing until 4 September. She is one of the curators of the new HearHer Festival, which will take place in Poole, Dorset from 11-13 October.
