KT Tunstall Readies ‘Ultimate Edition’ Of Second Album ‘Drastic Fantastic’

KT Tunstall’s second album Drastic Fantastic will be reissued in three new formats, adding a generous selection of bonus material, on January 15, 2021. Drastic Fantastic (Ultimate Edition), expanding the BRIT and Ivor Novello Award-winning singer-songwriter’s second album, first released in 2007, will be available as a colored vinyl double LP set with bonus 10” vinyl, and in a triple CD edition.

The colored double LP version’s additional 10” vinyl disc will contain four new, unreleased remixes of the singles from the album, “Hold On,” “If Only,” “Little Favors,” and Tunstall’s own mix of “Saving My Face,” in her remix guise of Tunnelz. The triple CD set will include the same tracklist, with a disc of instrumentals, available through all digital and streaming platforms.

The first, previously unreleased instant grat track to be shared from the reissue is out today. It’s the live acoustic version of “Turn Into You,” taken from the All You Need Is Mud documentary, with commentary:

After the immense impact and multi-platinum sales of Tunstall’s 2004 debut album Eye To The Telescope, her sophomore set was another major success. It reached No.3 in the UK and topped Billboard’s Rock Albums and Alternative Albums charts. It also climbed to No.9 on the all-genre Billboard 200 and No.10 in Canada.

Crushing the sophomore jinx

“Tunstall crushes the sophomore jinx under the stiletto heels of the white boots she wears on the album cover,” wrote Billboard in its review, “delivering a confident and assured set that’s fuller and a touch more electric than its predecessor.” The Guardian enthused: “Tunstall has never sounded better, and the Sheryl Crow riffs and mid-tempo chick rock of ‘If Only’ and ‘Little Favors’ serve her well.”

Amy Raphael’s five-star review of the album in The Observer raved: “Drastic Fantastic moves from the jangly guitar, vocal harmonies and power pop of ‘Little Favors’ to unashamed indie love song ‘Funnyman’ and the kd lang simplicity of ‘Hopeless.’

“By ‘Beauty of Uncertainty,’ which runs at just over five minutes, Tunstall has turned to sultry, intimate vocals set against simple bluesy guitar-picking. But you can’t keep a great voice down: folky bit out of the way, KT soars and swoops to the finale.”
