Keane have announced a book recalling the making of their 2004 debut. Hopes and Fears: Lyrics and History is a 160 page, full color commemorative hardback book that features full album lyrics, including those of B-sides and rarities, original notebook scans, photographs and ephemera, alongside behind the scenes reflections from the members of Keane. Hopes and Fears: Lyrics and History is out November 28, 2024 via Faber Music & Island Records.

The book’s launch will be supported by the band with a special acoustic performance and book signing at Outernet London, The Forge on November 29th, and will be available at the band’s pop-up shop at 25 Denmark Street. The shop will be open from November 28th until December 1st. Click here for more information about the event and pop-up shop.

The multi-platinum Hopes and Fears introduced the English alternative rock band to the world. The album was the UK’s second best-selling album of 2004 and has since sold millions of copies worldwide. The album won a Brit Award for Best Album in 2005. The 12-song record includes several of Keane’s most famous tracks, including “Somewhere Only We Know,” a No. 3 hit in the U.K. The song was recently featured in the Vevo Footnotes video series. In the clip, pianist and primary songsmith Tim Rice-Oxley notes that “Twenty years later, “Somewhere Only We Know” has a whole life beyond anything we could have dreamed of. It’s very moving to see how much the song means to people.” Other beloved singles include “Everybody’s Changing” and “Bedshaped,” which were both top 10 hits in the UK, as well as “This Is the Last Time” and “Bend and Break.”

Earlier this year, Hopes and Fears received a 20th anniversary deluxe edition, which arrived with b-sides, previously unreleased demos, and rarities. The album was remastered and cut by Frank Arkwright at Abbey Road Studios. 5.1 Dolby Atmos mixes come from David Kosten. Hopes and Fears was a hard-fought success for Keane, who first performed live in 1998. The original lineup featured Rice-Oxley, vocalist Tom Chaplin, drummer Richard Hughes, and guitarist Dominic Scott; Scott’s departure from the band in 200 led the group to pursue a piano-driven sound.
