Jhené Aiko Revisits The Making Of ‘Chilombo’ In ‘Born Tired’ Video
‘Chilombo’ is nominated for Album of the Year and Best Urban Contemporary Album at the 2021 Grammy Awards.
R&B star Jhené Aiko drops a new visual for her single “Born Tired,” where she revisits the making of her platinum album Chilombo. The album, released earlier in March, is nominated for Album of the Year and Best Urban Contemporary Album at the 2021 Grammy Awards.
The “Born Tired” video shows Aiko exploring the serenity of her surroundings in Hawaii, drawing inspiration from the island’s tranquility and using traditional singing bowls to enhance her environment. Aiko spends the video sharing heartfelt moments with friends and family, singing and transforming an inflated bounce house into a performance space.
“The making of Chilombo was full of tears, laughter, love, family, and healing,” Aiko wrote on Twitter. “This year has been a whirlwind … tired but I’m fired up.”
Despite the tumultuous times of the year, 2020 has brought Aiko extended success and critical acclaim through Chilombo.
The album became Aiko’s biggest debut and highest-selling album thus far when it debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard R&B Albums chart and No. 2 on the Billboard 200. It marked the biggest debut from a female R&B artist since Beyoncé released Lemonade in 2016.
Chilombo was nominated for Album of the Year and Aiko herself for Best R&B/Soul Female Artist at the 2020 BET Soul Train Awards. The singer was recently featured in Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Power Players issue where she discussed the truth about R&B alongside Kehlani, Teyana Taylor, and Summer Walker.
In addition to her 2021 Grammy nominations for Album of the Year and Best Urban Contemporary Album, Aiko has also been nominated in the Best R&B Performance category for Chilombo track “Lightning & Thunder” featuring John Legend.
The nomination brings Aiko’s total all-time Grammy nominations to six. In 2015, the singer was nominated for Best Urban Contemporary Album for Sail Out, Best R&B Song for “The Worst,” and Best Rap/Sung Performance for “Blak Majik” with Common.
