Jeff Goldblum has shared a new track, ‘Four On Six’/’Broken English’. The song features a contribution from vocalist Anna Calvi and it also features on Goldblum’s new album, I Shouldn’t Be Telling You This, recorded with The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra and set for release on 1 November. You can check the new song out below.
Brit Award and Mercury Prize nominee Anna Calvi also composed the score for the fifth series of the BBC’s Peaky Blinders, which follows actor Cillian Murphy’s gangster turned MP Tommy Shelby.
Shot at Frank Sinatra’s former home in Palm Springs, California, the I Shouldn’t Be Telling You This cover shows Goldblum playing a white baby-grand on a floating stage in the middle of the late crooner’s famous piano-shaped swimming pool. Aside from Anna Calvi, the record also features collaborations with Sharon Van Etten, Fiona Apple and more.
Of the new record, Goldblum said: “I’m crying with ecstasy over this new album. Creatively, I’m happy as a clam. This collection of cohorts (cream of the crop), with whom I get to cavort, is outta this cosmos!”
Vice president of Decca Records Tom Lewis said: “Jeff Goldblum is the Pied Piper of jazz. “He has lured an incredible array of indie, soul and pop kids away from their existing musical homes and led them towards his magical world of jazz.
“The album is full of sass, cool, swing and vim. We’re so lucky to have Jeff Goldblum in our musical lives.”
Last week, Goldblum released his Gregory Porter collaboration, ‘Make Someone Happy’, which also features on I Shouldn’t Be Telling You This.
Jeff Goldblum said of working with the much-acclaimed vocalist: “There are a lot of great singers, both past and present, and the truly classic ones have that unmistakeable sound that grabs you immediately. Gregory Porter is one of those singers. His humanity and musicianship burn brighter than a super nova. I’m honoured to have met him, played with him and I’m wildly happy that he’s on our new record, with ‘Make Someone Happy’.”
