Janet Jackson Releases ‘Rhythm Nation 1814’ Remix Albums

In honour of the 30th anniversary of her landmark 1989 album, Janet Jackson has released Rhythm Nation 1814: The Remixes, available across digital platforms for the first time.

The remixes include nine mini-albums that were initially issued following the release of Ms Jackson’s game-changing masterpiece, via various 12-inch and 7-inch vinyl releases and CD singles.

Initially released on 19 September 1989, Rhythm Nation 1814 ultimately went 12x platinum worldwide and spawned seven Top 5 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.

The mini-albums include 90 tracks in total, with the majority of the remixes being done by the most innovative producers and remixers of the era.

Among these remix collections is three, rare non-LP tracks that were previously only available on rare single releases. These include ‘The Skin Game’, ‘You Need Me’ and ‘The 1814 Megamix’.

Famed producer Shep Pettibone, who’s responsible for Madonna’s ‘Vogue’, put his spin on a number of Rhythm Nation remixes including ‘Alright’, ‘Escapade’, ‘Love Will Never Do (Without You)’, ‘Miss You Much’, ‘Rhythm Nation’ and ‘State Of The World’. Many of his remixes also featured the late, great New York rapper, Heavy D.

The original Rhythm Nation 1814 album producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis also oversaw a number of remixes including ‘Black Cat’ and contributed original remixes of their own for ‘Come Back To Me’ and ‘Miss You Much’.

UK dance music pioneers CJ Mackintosh and Dave Dorrell also make an appearance on Rhythm Nation 1814 remixes, contributing three exceptionally rare 12-inch mixes for ‘Escapade’, while Mackintosh was behind ‘Love Will Never Do (Without You) – U.K. Funky 7” Mix’.

Finally, legendary NY producer and Sound Factory Junior Vasquez supplied a number of ‘State Of The World’ remixes alongside those done by Pettibone.

Along with these digital releases, Ms Jackson marked the album’s anniversary earlier this year with the announcement of a special #RN30 anniversary tour and a series of reissues of Rhythm Nation 1814, alongside Control, Control: The Remixes, janet.,The Velvet Rope and All For You.
