The former NWA rapper, Ice Cube continues to push the political envelope with his latest single ‘Arrest The President’.
The former NWA rapper, Ice Cube continues to push the political envelope with his latest single ‘Arrest The President’.
The timely track was first teased during the US midterm elections on Tuesday, 6 November, with the hip-hop icon posting a clip on Instagram with the caption: “Cuffs are ready… Get out there and vote.”
Continuing his hard-hitting style, Cube takes aim at the POTUS directly and calls out the administration’s current scandals, including its alleged collusion with Russia and their immigration policies.
“When it rains it pours/Did you know the new white was orange? Boy, you’re showing your horns.”
‘Arrest The President’ is the latest single off Ice Cube’s highly anticipated tenth solo album, Everythang’s Corrupt, set for release on 7 December. He previously dropped a music video for the title track ‘Everythang’s Corrupt’ back in 2012, a day before the US election. Shortly followed by the second single ‘Crowded’ that same year and ‘Sic Them Youngins On ‘Em’ in 2014.
Initially set for release in 2014, the album got pushed back due to Cube’s involvement overseeing the film adaptation of NWA’s origin story, the hugely successful Straight Outta Compton, which hit theatres in 2015.
Like many of his peers, the iconic West Coast rapper has expanded his credits beyond music, both acting and producing feature films, including the final instalment of the Friday franchise, running the BIG3 basketball league and is even in talks with LL Cool J to buy a series of regional sports networks from Fox.
The rapper also celebrated the 25th anniversary of his 1991 classic, Death Certificate with a special reissue that included three new songs in spring of 2017.
It’s been eight years since Cube dropped his last solo studio effort with 2010’s I Am the West and his return could not come at a better time.
