Gwen Stefani Releases Video For New Single ‘Somebody Else’s’
The pop superstar also recently performed the title track from her new album ‘Bouquet’ on Fallon.
Gwen Stefani is continuing to introduce the world to her next era. This week, fresh off the release of her new album Bouquet, the music icon released a music video for “Somebody Else’s.” She also took to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to perform the album’s title track.
The new-wavey “Somebody Else’s” is a bit of an outlier on the new LP. It presents a stylish update on the pop and rock sounds that made Stefani a star, calling back to her work with No Doubt. The video was filmed in Santa Paula, CA with director Andrew Donoho, who took advantage of the area’s natural beauty.
“Bouquet,” meanwhile, shows off a fresh new pop-country side of Stefani’s catalog. It’s a swooning midtempo track about finding love again after a phase of heartbreak: “Sunflowers and roses tied up in a bow and/ Now look at the life we made/ We’re makin’ our own bouquet.” Stefani performed the track Monday on The Tonight Show, inspiring a rousing reaction from Fallon. Last week, ahead of Bouquet’s release, Stefani appeared on Today to discuss the new album.
Working with producer Scott Hendricks, a veteran country hit-maker, Stefani recorded Bouquet with a live band at Smoakstack Studios in Nashville. The album also features the single “Swallow My Tears” and ends with “Purple Irises,” a duet with her husband and former The Voice co-star Blake Shelton. According to Stefani, “Bouquet represents a blend of everything that I’ve ever been and who I’ve evolved into. Each one of the songs was picked like individual flowers to create a bouquet of the past, the present and the seed of hope for the future.”
