Gibson Honour Chris Cornell With Special Limited Edition Guitar
“Chris was a special artist, and we hope that this guitar will inspire fans to find their sound and inspiration,” said Gibson’s Cesar Gueikian.
Gibson have announced a new limited edition Chris Cornell model of their classic guitar. Launched on 27 August, the Chris Cornell ES 335 instrument pays homage to the late Soundgarden frontman who died in May 2017.
The special guitar will be available worldwide from 3 September through authorised Gibson retailers. A pre-sale began with Tuesday’s initial announcement, and you can find more information at Gibson guitars’ official website.
“Chris Cornell was not only one of the most iconic singer-songwriters of all time, he was a modern innovator who left a legacy that transcends music genres and generations,” said Gibson’s chief merchant officer Cesar Gueikian.
“Chris fell in love with this guitar, and it became a part of his creative expression. It’s our honour to release this tribute ES-335 in his memory. Chris was a special artist, and we hope that this guitar will inspire fans to find their sound and inspiration — just like Chris did — for many years to come.”
The ES 335 guitar was first seen during the Chris Cornell tribute show in LA back in January. ‘I Am The Highway’ took place at the US city’s The Forum venue and featured performances from the likes of Metallica, Ryan Adams, Foo Fighters and the remaining members of Soundgarden.
As uDiscover Music previously reported, Soundgarden along with the Chris Cornell Estate, UMe and the critically-acclaimed music series Artists Den, released the critically-acclaimed Soundgarden: Live from the Artists Den collection on 26 July.
Captured at Los Angeles’ Wiltern Theater on 17 February 2013, the 29 song-show comprising almost two and a half hours, encompasses the band’s rich musical legacy, spanning their early years with ‘Hunted Down,’ through their monumental albums Badmotorfinger and Superunknown respectively with ‘Outshined’ and ‘Black Hole Sun,’ and to their final record, with nearly every song from King Animal including ‘By Crooked Steps’ and ‘Been Away Too Long.’ Live From The Artists Den features 21 songs never before released on a Soundgarden concert film, including 17 making their first appearance on a live album.
Soundgarden’s Live From The Artists Den is out now and can be bought here.
