‘George Fest’ To Celebrate Harrison
The life and music of George Harrison will be celebrated in ‘George Fest,’ an all-star tribute concert in Los Angeles later this month, starring Brian Wilson, Norah Jones and many others. George’s son Dhani will also perform.
‘George Fest’ will take place at the El Rey Theatre on Wilshire Boulevard on September 28, with performances by Brian Wilson, Norah Jones, Brandon Flowers and Mark Stoermer of the Killers, Wayne Coyne and Steven Drodz of Flaming Lips, Ian Astbury of the Cult and Ann Wilson of Heart.
Also on the extensive bill are Britt Daniel of Spoon, ‘Weird Al’ Jankovic. Butch Walker, Nick Valensi of the Strokes, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Brian Bell of Weezer, Butch Walker, Cold War Kids and Matt Sorum among others, with further surprise guests on the night. Tickets for the event go on sale today (September 5) at 10am PST.
‘George Fest’ will be a benefit for the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund, which helps professional musicians who are in need of financial assistance or medical care. The event will be produced by Best Fest, which as Billboard reports, has previously overseen similar tributes to major artists including Dylan Fest, Petty Fest and Stones Fest.
