Listen To Gaz Coombes’ New Track, ‘Salamander’
The new song marks the ex-Supergrass frontman’s first new material since 2018’s ‘World’s Strongest Man’ album.
Gaz Coombes has released ‘Salamander’, his first new track since 2018’s highly acclaimed album World’s Strongest Man. You can check it out below.
An archetypal Gaz Coombes track, ‘Salamander’ is an ambitious, free thinking and expansive work with an addictive melody. Written and recorded by Coombes at his Oxford studio, co-produced alongside long-time collaborator Ian Davenport, and featuring guest performances from members of his versatile touring band, Coombes delivers yet another example of his prodigious song writing.
Released through Hot Fruit/ Caroline International, 2018’s widely-acclaimed World’s Strongest Man was the follow up to 2015’s Matador – a record pretty much conceived, recorded and mixed in the studio equivalent of solitary confinement. The record’s success transported Gaz Coombes from ‘former Supergrass frontman’ status to hugely respected Mercury and Ivor Novello nominated solo artist in the space of just ten short months.
uDiscover Music’s assessment of World’s Strongest Man said: “If the dreaded “difficult third album” syndrome ever blighted Coombes during the album’s creation, it doesn’t show. World’s Strongest Man – its title inspired by Grayson Perry’s masculinity-related The Descent Of Man – is a diverse, 11-song set of cryptic, yet deeply personal songs which rank among Coombes’ best.”
A year on from World’s Strongest Man, Gaz Coombes continues on his genre-defying trajectory, exploring avenues in music and perspectives on life in equal measure.
