Finneas Announces Debut Album ‘Optimist,’ Releases First Single
The album is out October 15.
Finneas has announced his debut album titled Optimist, set for release October 15 via Interscope.
The Billie Eilish collaborator and sibling revealed the album today (August 5) on social media with its cover art. The news arrived minutes after the premiere of his newest single “A Concert Six Months From Now,” which was paired with a music video.
The video for “A Concert Six Months From Now,” shows Finneas exploring the famed Los Angeles venue the Hollywood Bowl. He climbs on abandoned seats while grappling with his emotions, reminiscing on his past with an ex-lover. “If I could see the future / I never would believe her / Falling in and out of love and falling in again / We were never any good at being friends,” he sings in its chorus.
Last month, James Blake announced and released “Say What You Will,” a new collaborative single with Finneas. “Say What You Will” is the first glimpse into Blake’s upcoming fifth album, which he has completed, he confirmed earlier this month.
In a red carpet interview with Billboard at the 2020 Grammys, Blake said Finneas would be a “dream collaborator” to work with.
“Say What You Will” was first unveiled to fans in one of Blake’s several intimate livestream performances on Instagram Live in April 2020. In these livestreams, Blake also covered songs by Joy Division, Radiohead, and Beyoncé.
Since then, Blake has released two stellar EPs: Before, which comprised original tracks, and a Covers EP where Blake took on Billie Eilish’s “When The Party’s Over,” which was written and produced by Finneas.
