Never one to shy away from violence, this time it’s Eminem who suffers at the hands of abuse, with the music video for ‘Good Guy’ featuring singer Jessie Reyez off his album ‘Kamikaze’.
Never one to shy away from violence, this time it’s Eminem who suffers at the hands of abuse, with the music video for ‘Good Guy’ featuring singer Jessie Reyez off his album Kamikaze.
‘Good Guy’ is the sequel to another Kamikaze track, ‘Nice Guy’, also featuring Reyez and deals with the complicated relationships the rapper finds himself in. Domestic violence has been a recurring theme in Eminem’s work, from ‘Kim’ off Marshall Mathers to ‘Love The Way You Lie’ featuring Rhianna.
The clip begins with Reyez clawing her way out of a grave and confronting the rapper in a palatial home. What ensues is one long, choreographed fight scene, where anything and everything is a weapon. From glass throwing to stabbing, Reyez eventually kills the rapper after they both fall out of a top-story window and buries him, continuing the cycle of how the video began.
This is the fourth visual off Eminem’s certified platinum album Kamikaze. It’s been a busy week for the Detroit MC. Just before he dropped the new video for ‘Good Guy’, it was announced that he was nominated for Best Rap Song award at the Grammys for another Kamikaze track, ‘Lucky You’.
He then took to Twitter to share his conflicted feelings about the awards, writing:
“I done won a couple Grammys, but I sold my soul to get ’em. Wasn’t in it for the trophies, just the f*ckin’ recognition.”
Eminem also recently shared the 11-minute freestyle ‘Kick Off’ to promote his new film about rap battles titled Bodied and even shot the freestyle on location at St Andrews Hall in Detroit.
“The release of Bodied has me feeling nostalgic about battle rap so I headed down to my old stomping grounds,” wrote the rapper on social media. Eminem’s last Grammy win was in 2015 for the Marshall Mathers LP.
