Emeli Sandé Releases New Single, ‘Shine’, New Album, ‘Real Life’ Due In September
The acclaimed singer-songwriter is also embarking on a full-scale UK tour throughout November and December.
Emeli Sandé MBE has today released her new single ‘Shine’, which is taken from her upcoming new album Real Life, due out on 13 September.
Harking back to an era of soul classics, ‘Shine’ is a contender for the singer-songwriter’s most empowering single to date. Opening with Motown-esque percussion, there’s the addition of piano chords alongside Sande’s soaring vocals and the uplifting feel of a gospel choir.
The accompanying music video for ‘Shine’ was directed by Sarah McColgan (H.E.R, Charli XCX, Miguel, Sean Paul) and shot in Los Angeles. The clip stars Sande and her sister Lucy, and showcases the close bond between the pair, while also embodying the fun, freewheeling sensibilities of the track. You can check it out below.
‘Shine’ is emblematic of the rest of Real Life, which is an album all about finding your inner power. Speaking about the record, Emeli Sande said: “With this album, I knew exactly what I wanted to say and do. I just want to give people this incredible superpower every time they play the album. Like a battery pack – by the end of the album they’re going to feel restored”
Real Life is an album recorded following an intense personal journey of self-doubt and self-discovery that marks a brand-new chapter for the much-acclaimed singer. Feeling attuned with the disenfranchised state of the world, Sande’s vision for Real Life is to give people hope and confidence.
Emeli Sande is pleased to announce her debut performance at this year’s Manchester Pride festival on 24 August. She said, “I’m so pleased to be able to play my first ever Pride in the city of Manchester. Being able to support the LGBT+ community at such a prestigious event means a lot to me and it’s an honour to be able to perform with so many other amazing artists on the bill. I really hope Manchester is ready for what we have in store as I couldn’t be more excited.”
