Elvis Costello And The Imposters Release ‘Purse’ EP Digitally
The EP’s four songs with unrecorded Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash lyrics first appeared on vinyl for this year’s Record Store Day.
Last year, Elvis Costello reunited with his backing band the Imposters on Look Now, their first album together in ten years. Now, they’ve release the ‘Purse’ EP. It was initially released and sold-out as a Record Store Day Exclusive vinyl edition on 13 April 2019.
However, ‘Purse’ is now available digitally, via Concord Records, and it compiles four previously unreleased recordings.
These four Elvis Costello songs comprising ‘Purse’ were co-written by Bob Dylan (‘Down In The Bottom’), Burt Bacharach (‘Everyone’s Playing House’), Johnny Cash (‘If You Love Me’), and Paul McCartney (‘The Lovers That Never Were’)and produced by Sebastian Krys and Elvis Costello. The closing track, ‘Down On The Bottom,’ features the vocals from Rebecca and Megan Lovell of Larkin Poe. You can hear Costello and the Imposters performing the McCartney/Costello co-write, ‘The Lovers That Never Were’ below.
As uDiscover Music previously reported, Costello and the Imposters will embark on a 13-date co-headlining tour of North America with Blondie this summer. The jaunt launches on 20 July in Bethel, New York and wraps on 10 August in Seattle, Washington.
Costello and Blondie share some history, having both emerged from the late 1970s New Wave movement. At one point in 1979, both acts were vying for supremacy at the top of the UK album charts with their respective third albums, the former’s Armed Forces and the latter’s Parallel Lines. Also, in the mid-Nineties, Costello and Blondie singer Debbie Harry collaborated on a track with the Jazz Passengers.
