Elvis Costello Brings His Imposters On A Summer Tour

Published on

Elvis Costello and Imposters Tour

After making his way around Europe, Elvis Costello is heading back to the states for what’s shaping up to be an impressive summer run at iconic venues around the country.

The 20-date run kicks off 3 June at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, California and concludes 25 July in Providence, Rhode Island. The tour also coincides with the 35th anniversary of his 1982 album, Imperial Bedroom, which was released back on 2 July 1982. While many legacy acts rely on nostalgic fans to fill stadium seats, Costello clarified in a statement that reminiscing is not the intention of the tour.

“We never intended to recite this book from cover to cover”, he said. “Listen to our new arrangement of ‘Tears Before Bedtime’ – it gets straight to the real meaning of that song, the way we hear and feel it today. Back in 1982, I might have been a step or two ahead of our crowd in the tragic, romantic stakes, but I sense that they’ve all caught up with me now”.

Like his 2016 tour, the backing band line-up includes long-time Imposters drummer Pete Thomas, singer-bassist Davey Faragher and keyboardist Steve Nieve, along with guest vocalists Kitten Kuroi and YahZarah. While LA-based folk-rock band Dawes, will be opening on select dates.

Produced by famed Beatles and Badfinger engineer, Geoff Emerick, Imperial Bedroom features many of Costello’s classics including ‘Beyond Belief’ and ‘Almost Blue’ and ranks at Number 166 on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums list. Pre-sale ticket and tour information is available on his official website.
