EC Was Here, In San Diego — Watch Live Eric Clapton Clip
Watch Slowhand playing live with A-list support from guitarists Derek Trucks and Doyle Bramhall.
Here’s a video excerpt for the Eric Clapton live DVD Live In San Diego, which was released on 10 March 2016 on DVD and Blu-ray. That follows the appearance of the album version last September. The new editions feature bonus footage of Clapton and his friend and inspiration J.J. Cale rehearsing ‘Anyway The Wind Blows’ and ‘Who Am I Telling You?’.
The clip shows Eric in top form with A-list support from guitarists Derek Trucks and Doyle Bramhall II, on a high-octane 2007 version of ‘Motherless Children.’ That was the song written by Texan bluesman and Clapton favourite Blind Willie Johnson, which had opened Eric’s big-selling 1974 album 461 Ocean Boulevard, on which it was arranged by his erstwhile Derek and the Dominos bandmate Carl Radle.
The set was recorded on 15 March 2007 at the iPayOne Centre in San Diego, where Eric played on the Californian leg of his Back Home tour. The concert, staged the night after he and the band had performed at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles, featured several guest appearances by his friend and inspiration Cale, with whom he had made the Road To Escondido album, released the year before.
Cale, who passed away in July 2013 at the age of 74, features on five tracks on the album, in a set that also featured four Derek and the Dominos songs in ‘Tell The Truth,’ ‘Got To Get Better In A Little While,’ ‘Anyway’ and ‘Layla.’ The full track listing of the album was as follows:
‘Tell the Truth’
‘Key to the Highway’
‘Got to Get Better in a Little While’
‘Little Wing’
‘Anyday’
‘Anyway the Wind Blows’
‘After Midnight’
‘Who Am I Telling You?’
‘Don’t Cry Sister’
‘Cocaine’
‘Motherless Children’
‘Little Queen of Spades’
‘Further on Up the Road’
‘Wonderful Tonight’
‘Layla’
‘Crossroads’

The best band EC ever had to tour with hear Derek doing the slides ….I hope Tell the truth is just as exciting as the Crossroads version . Best version ever the band nails that song for the full 1000 (thousand( % Things can never get better for that song. If the rest of the sings can get only close to that level this performance is a ringer for the best three live albums ever ABB Live at the Fillmore and Little Feat Waiting for Columbus (extended version) being the other two. Hell it is worth to be 63 and hear this stuff

It sounds like most anything else Eric has done in the past and that is great . I’m looking forward to adding it to my collection .

This is not just great; it’s one of the best live albums he’s ever done. There’s an energy that’s been missing for a long time
