Drake Announces 2019 OVO Fest Line-Up
This year OVO presents two days of music across 4 and 5 August at Toronto’s Budweiser Stage.
Drake’s OVO Fest will make its return to Toronto, Ontario, later this year. Two days of music will take place across 4 and 5 August at the Budweiser Stage (previously known as the Molson Amphitheatre). 4 August will feature performances by B2K, Mario, Pretty Ricky, Lloyd, Ying Yang Twins, Chingy, and Bobby V, while Drake himself will headline the venue on 5 August.
There are also two other events that have been announced as part of OVO Fest: the OVO Summit, described as “an immersive conference for Canadian creatives and lifestyle entrepreneurs looking to grow their careers,” will take place at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre on 2 August. Elsewhere, OVO Bounce, a basketball showcase event, will take place at the University of Toronto Goldring Centre.
Tickets for the ninth annual event go on sale this Friday, 12 July. For further information, please visit the festival’s official site.
Following some late 2018 teases of an OVO Fest revival, Drake got definitive during Raptors celebrations this June. While speaking to attendees of the championship-inspired throw down, Drake invited the team to participate in the fest this summer.
“I hope that all these guys will join me this year because we’re bringing OVO Fest back, so I hope we can go crazy,” the rap superstar said at the time. “I go by the name of Drake. I love each and every one of y’all. I hope you enjoy this moment.”
Drake first established OVO Fest in 2010. That year Drake amazed fans with Eminem, who performed his verse from their hit collaboration “Forever,” and Jay Z, who performed ‘Run This Town.’
OVO Fest 2011 marked the second year event and found Drake on the cusp of superstardom. He hadn’t yet released his blockbuster sophomore album, Take Care, but he was already seen as one of the biggest names in hip-hop.
The second annual OVO Fest featured performances from Rick Ross and the Weeknd, among others, but none was more surprising than Stevie Wonder making a surprise appearance to perform for a half-hour. The legendary soul singer performed a medley of ‘I Wish,’ ‘Ribbon in the Sky,’ ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered,’ and ‘Superstitious.’ Other notable appearances at OVO have been Jay-Z in 2013 and Ms. Lauryn Hill in 2014.
