Disney Shares Rachel Zegler’s ‘Waiting On A Wish’ From ‘Snow White’
It’s the first single from the upcoming live-action film.

“Disney’s Snow White,” the new live-action adaptation of the classic animation, is set to premiere on March 21st. Fans can get a preview of what’s to come with the release of the soundtrack’s first single, “Waiting On A Wish,” performed by Rachel Zegler. A music video has been shared alongside the track, featuring clips from the film.
“Waiting On A Wish” was written by EGOT winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, with additional lyrics by Jack Feldman. The song was produced by Benj Pasek, Justin Paul, Ian Eisendrath and Dave Metzger. Producer Marc Platt said, “Benj and Justin came up with the idea of ‘Waiting On A Wish,’ inspired by the iconic wishing well first introduced to audiences in the animated ‘Snow White.’ They have written a truly beautiful song for our new film that is bound to become iconic in its own right.”
The new original song follows in the classic Disney tradition of the “I Want” song. As songwriting icon Howard Ashman explained in Disney+ documentary Waking Sleeping Beauty, the “I Want” song is an early number where “the leading lady sits down on something and sings about what she wants in life, and the audience falls in love with her and then roots for her to get it for the rest of the night.” Classic examples are The Little Mermaid’s “Part of Your World” and Mulan’s “Reflection.”
In “Waiting On A Wish,” Zegler’s Snow White expresses her desire to break free from the story she feels has already been written for her. “I close my eyes and see / The girl I’m meant to be / Is she a part of me I’ve yet to find? / Wondering, “Will she appear? / Or will I be forever here / Waiting on a wish?”
The original soundtrack of songs for Snow White will be released March 14th, a week before the film arrives in theaters.
