Direct from the BBC Radio Theatre in London, the band will be lighting a fire in the sky as they play selected numbers from their highly-acclaimed back catalogue of rock classics, including tracks from its electrifying new album, InFinite. The show is scheduled for Thursday, 16 November, and fans can watch the whole gig live from 8 p.m. on the BBC Red Button (available by pressing red from any BBC TV channel).

“Deep Purple are really looking forward to performing for the BBC Radio 2’s ‘In Concert’ programme,” says drummer Ian Paice. “It’s been many years since we did something like this. But through all those years, one thing has never changed. Playing live is the only way to capture the spirit of rock n roll music, because even 60 years after it reared its wonderful rebellious head, that’s what it still is! There is no safety net of the recording machine to ‘fix things later’ — you get it right or get it wrong. For the musicians, it’s an adrenaline rush, concentration and invention, but most of all fun. That’s why we started doing it when we were kids. We hope you have fun being on the receiving end.”

The band’s most recent album InFinite was released in April via earMUSIC. The disc is the first album bassist Roger Glover and singer Ian Gillan have made since turning 70. Gillan, the oldest member of the band, turned 72 in August. Glover will become 72 on November 30. Paice is still several years younger at 69.

The current Deep Purple line-up is rounded out by keyboardist Don Airey and guitarist Steve Morse. Airey joined in 2002, replacing Jon Lord, while Morse joined in 1994 as the replacement for Ritchie Blackmore.

Looking forward to this big time as we might be unable to attend the Brum show. Deep Purple NEVER disappoint live in any format. Don’t miss this top class act.

Embarrassing, I wanted to remember them as they were. With all the young talent around what is wrong with the BBC?
