Chris Stapleton To Perform At 2018 CMT Music Awards
Kelsea Ballerini, Luke Bryan, Kelly Clarkson, Sam Hunt and Blake Shelton are also slated to take to the stage.
The first round of performers for the 2018 CMT Music Awards have been announced, with Chris Stapleton, Kelsea Ballerini, Luke Bryan, Kelly Clarkson, Sam Hunt and Blake Shelton all slated to take the stage at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.
Making her first appearance on the show, Kelly Clarkson is set to perform a rendition of The Guess Who’s ‘American Woman,’ which is also the title of an upcoming Paramount Network sitcom starring Alicia Silverstone that premieres the next day. The 1970 classic-rock hit has actually been performed on the CMT Music Awards stage once before – Jason Aldean and Lenny Kravitz teamed up to open the show with the song in 2013. That same year, Kravitz was a surprise guest at the CMA Music Festival.
Hunt and Clarkson are the only performers who are not nominated for an award at this year’s ceremony, with Stapleton up for three and Shelton and Ballerini in the running for two each. Aldean, Florida Georgia Line and Carrie Underwood lead the field with four nominations each.
2018 is already gearing up to be a big year for Chris Stapleton. He won the coveted Male Vocalist of the Year at the 53rd ACM (Academy of Country Music) Awards in April, while his acclaimed From A Room: Volume 1 was also named the ACM Album of the Year. More recently, Stapleton scooped several major accolades at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards, where he walked away with Top Male Country Artist, Top Country Artist and also Top Country Album with From A Room Vol. 1. In addition, Stapleton was nominated for the Billboard Music 200 Artist Prize, eventually won by Drake.
Little Big Town will host this year’s fan-voted CMT Music Awards show, which airs live on 6 June 6th at 8pm ET on CMT, one night before Nashville’s yearly CMA Festival kicks off.
