Brian Wilson And The Zombies Announce ‘Something Great From ’68 Tour’
The UK rockers announced they’ll be playing their classic 1968 album ‘Odessey and Oracle’ in full, while Wilson will perform songs from 1968’s ‘Friends’ and 1971’s ‘Surf’s Up’.
British Invasion icons the Zombies and The Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson will embark on a joint US tour called ‘Something Great From ’68’.
The tour is scheduled to kick off on 31 August at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and conclude 26 September at the Beacon Theatre in New York City.
The UK rockers announced they’ll be playing their classic 1968 album Odessey and Oracle in full, while Wilson will primarily perform songs from the two Beach Boys albums: 1968’s Friends and 1971’s Surf’s Up, along with a few rarities and other classic hits.
Wilson’s former Beach Boys bandmates Al Jardine and Blondie Chaplin will also be joining him onstage.
“It’s been quite a year and I’m ready to go out and tour some music that makes everyone have a feel-good vibe,” Wilson said in a statement. “The Friends album has always been one of my favourites, and I love the music from that time in history.”
The Zombies will be opening each show with their performance of their 1968 record in full and reunite former members Rod Argent and Colin with fellow co-founders Chris White and Hugh Grundy for the remaining dates.
The recent Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame inductees also have a few headlining shows in early August, featuring their current line-up that consists of Rod Argent, Colin Blunstone, Steve Rodford, Tom Toomey and Søren Koch.
Meanwhile Wilson’s longtime touring keyboardist and musical director Darian Sahanaja, shared his excitement for the joint tour.
“Any fan of Pet Sounds should immediately identify with Odessey and Oracle,” he shared in a statement. “Rich harmonic tapestries, baroque impressions with an underlying melancholy… classicism with an emotional yearning that I find common in both Brian’s songwriting and that of The Zombies. To be able to perform with both entities on the same bill is a dream within a dream within a ‘hung up’ dream come true.”
