Breakthrough Country Star Brett Young Completes International Adventure
Platinum-selling breakthrough country artist Brett Young completed a debut run of shows in the UK and Ireland last week opening on Lady Antebellum’s You Look Good tour, as he has done in North America and internationally. The California native’s “West Coast meets Southern” sound sparked a strong response when uDiscover saw his 10 October show at London’s The 02. Further support on the bill came from another of Nashville’s newer stars, Kelsea Ballerini.
Young, whose 2017 debut album for Big Machine is gold-certified in the US, currently has a different version of its double platinum smash single ‘In Case You Didn’t Know’ out in the UK, as a duet featuring Irish vocalist Una Healy. She has her own country-flavoured debut solo album The Waiting Game out now on Decca. “I think the new version of the single turned out great,” says Young. “Una’s voice is special and adds a different flavour to the track.”
Young has made good on the predictions of various outlets such as Rolling Stone Country, who said he was “destined for mass appeal.” ‘In Case You Didn’t Know’ made him the first country artist to reach the RIAA’s platinum certification mark with a song released in 2017.
The Brett Young album, recorded in Nashville with in-demand producer Dann Huff (Keith Urban, Thomas Rhett, Steven Tyler), also includes the gold-certified ‘Sleep Without You’ and his latest US single ‘Like I Loved You.’ Last Friday (13), Young released his version of the festive ‘O Holy Night,’ commenting on Facebook: “Is it ever too early for Christmas music? Nahhhh.”
Young, whose international shows included a version of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah,’ sets out on his own next set of dates tomorrow (17) in Colorado Springs, CO. Shows run until 16 December, with more booked from February 2018.
