Bon Jovi Call On Local Bands To Audition For Their US Tour
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers are heading out on their first tour since 2019.
Bon Jovi are embarking on a US tour in April, and are giving local bands a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join them as opening acts in each city. The Opening Act Contest allows bands to submit a performance video for the specific city they’re from, in such markets as Omaha, Fort Lauderdale, Indianapolis, and Austin. Bands can enter the contest, and view more details on Bon Jovi’s website.
“We have all missed touring, and we know that nothing can replace the energy of a live show for the fans or the band,” Jon Bon Jovi said in a statement.
The 15-date arena tour begins on April 1 in Omaha, NE at CHI Health Center, with the closing show taking place at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on April 30. The outing also marks Bon Jovi’s first tour since 2019, after the pandemic halted plans to tour in support of their latest album, 2020. Bon Jovi first teased the LP in early 2020, with their single “Limitless,” before the album’s release date was pushed back to October. The themes of the record (trying to stay optimistic despite hard times in the world) wound up being aptly fitting. “The meaning behind it – there’s the obvious. It’s an election year, and I couldn’t do any worse,” frontman Jon Bon Jovi said in a statement. “So, 2020 – of course, it’s an election year, but more importantly, it’s that I have clear vision going forward.”
The band used the delay and quarantine to write extra songs for their thirteenth studio album, “American Reckoning” and “Do What You Can,” that were reflective of the changing times. The emotional realism of Bon Jovi’s songwriting paid off, with 2020 peaking at No.3 on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums chart.
