Billy Idol Announces Extensive UK, European Tour For 2018
Rock icon Billy Idol is all set to bring his Live! 2018 Tour to the UK and Europe. The earliest date to be announced is a 20 June show in Manchester with more dates to be revealed in the coming days.
The forthcoming tour includes a 23 June appearance at O2 Academy Brixton in London and will be Idol’s first UK/European run since his hugely successful Kings & Queens of The Underground Tour in 2014 and 2015.
The Guardian described Billy Idol’s 2014 and last headline performance in London at the Hammersmith Apollo in their 4-star review: “Wrapped in leather and soaked in nostalgia, the punk zealot serves up hard riffs with attitude…Idol struts and snarls, propelled by the conviction that rock is the cure for whatever ails you…. this show is nothing if not fantastic fun.”
Tickets for the UK shows go on sale on Friday, 15 December at 10.00am, though a presale for Billy Idol website subscribers begins today. Check local venue listings for detailed on sale information.
Billy Idol was an early architect of the sound, style, and fury of punk rock. His lip-curling sneer and fist-pumping persona vaulted him into the mainstream as one of MTV’s first megastars, making him one of the most recognizable faces in pop music, while selling out arenas everywhere he played. He has sold 40 million albums while scoring numerous platinum albums worldwide, nine top forty singles in the U.S. and 10 in the U.K. including ‘Dancing With Myself’, ‘White Wedding,’ ‘Rebel Yell,’ ‘Mony Mony,’ ‘Eyes Without A Face,’ ‘Flesh For Fantasy,’ and ‘Cradle Of Love.’
Idol was responsible for some of punk rock’s most memorable, literate, and evocative moments and created a pioneering new sound by bringing the spirit of ’77 to the dance floor, going on to fashion an immediately identifiable musical blueprint that integrates club-land throb, rockabilly desperation, and rock’n’roll decadence.
2014’s Kings And Queens Of The Underground was Idol’s first album of new material in nearly a decade. The album’s palette, which includes contributions from long-time collaborator and lead guitarist Steve Stevens, is instantly familiar to lovers of classic Billy Idol, while announcing a firm step into the future. It was produced by Trevor Horn (with two tracks co-written and produced by 2017 Grammy Producer of The Year winner Greg Kurstin).
As also recently reported on uDiscover Music, three of Billy Idol’s landmark albums from the 80s have been newly-remastered and were recently reissued on high-quality vinyl with faithfully reproduced original album art. The punk rock icon’s first two solo albums, Billy Idol and Rebel Yell, plus the expansive double-LP greatest hits collection Idolize Yourself: The Very Best of Billy Idol were released through UMe on 3 November 2017.
