Big Sean Premieres Video For ‘Harder Than My Demons’
The single comes ahead of Sean’s anticipated new album, ‘Detroit 2,’ out this Friday.
Big Sean, whose anticipated new album, Detroit 2, drops this Friday via Def Jam, shared his latest single “Harder Than My Demons,” along with a visually-stunning video.
Sean shared news of the video on Instagram earlier today, captioning “I know we need motivation right now, in life and music! It’s been too much trauma n tragedy lately. I’m a do my part, I just pray y’all hear me out!” The dramatic visual was helmed by acclaimed artist and director Child, whose credits include videos for Ari Lennox, BJ the Chicago Kid, and Lucky Daye.
“Harder Than My Demons” marks the second cut off Detroit 2. Last week, the rapper released single “Deep Reverence” – a posthumous collaboration with the late Nipsey Hussle. On Friday, Sean offered a taste of his track with longtime collaborator Lil Wayne, “Don Life.” The song, which samples Michael Jackson’s 1982 track “Human Nature,” was accompanied by a fast-paced black and white video teaser.
Sean’s fifth studio album will drop nearly eight years to the day of its predecessor. The widely-hailed 2012 Detroit mixtape featured a who’s who of guest talent, including Kendrick Lamar, Common, J. Cole, Tyga, and Juicy J. Now, Sean will once again pay homage to his hometown on his long-awaited follow-up. “Detroit, to me, is home,” he said in a trailer for the LP. “But I feel like it’s more than just a city, you know? It’s, for real, a mentality.”
Though few details have been revealed for Detroit 2, Sean has released a selection of album-themed merchandise, available exclusively on his website, including a trucker hat, t-shirt, tote bag, and face mask. Over the weekend, limited-edition “Don Life” designs quickly sold out. Today, a “Harder Than My Demons” t-shirt was added to the store and will be available for 72 hours or until product sells out. All merch purchases will include a digital download link for the album on September 4.
Detroit 2 is available on September 4 and can be preordered here.
