Ben Platt Shares ‘Andrew,’ Announces New Album ‘Honeymind’
The new album will arrive on May 31 via Interscope Records.
Ben Platt has shared a tender new folk-driven single entitled “Andrew.” The track is the first single to be unveiled from Platt’s highly anticipated new album Honeymind, due May 31 via Interscope Records.
“His hair falls in cool, careless waves without trying, goes days without crying but still treats me kind,” Platt croons over acoustic guitar plucking.
“And it’s not his fault all the sleep I’ve been losing, the way that I’m ruined — one look in his eyes and I’m gone, helplessly gone.” The track was produced by hitmakers Dave Cobb and Alex Hope.
The serene, minimalist approach of “Andrew” is reflected in the Sam Wrench-directed music video. Check that out below.
Platt recently opened up about the creation of his new album and how it got its name. “One day I ate some mushroom chocolate and went on a hike with the love of my life,” he wrote. “I thought about how to describe to him that I was just so happy to be in love with him. That my love for him somehow softens things and slows it all down.” After a moment of contemplation, he settled on ‘honeymind’ as a suitable description for his state of bliss.
Matters of the heart dominate the album. “I wrote about finding real love,” Platt explains. “About being grateful for it and tending to it, and all of the work we have to do as individuals to find security in who we are, so that we’re ready for that real love when it comes along.”
Although this is the first new album from Platt since 2021’s Reverie, the prolific artist stayed more than busy. Last year, he starred on Broadway as Leo Frank in the revival of Paradex, earning him his second Tony nomination, and in the film Theater Camp, which he also produced and co-wrote.
