Aufgang’s Blue Note Summer
Their name may sound German, but Aufgang are a much-praised duo from France who are now spreading their breezy, disco-influenced synth-pop sound across Europe, via their deal with the French division of the Blue Note label. Take a listen to their catchy track ‘Summer’ and you’ll see what we mean:
The duo of Rami Khalifé and Aymeric Westrich, who have French/Lebanese backgrounds, met while they were studying piano at the Julliard School in Manhattan. They’ve gone on to work with other leading lights of synthesiser-led pop in France such as Phoenix and Cassius, and Aufgang are now recording an album in Beirut, Paris and New York, for release next year.
‘Summer’ has been mixed by Michael Brauer, whose previous credits include work with Coldplay, Sade and Florence + The Machine. The impact date for the new track is next Monday, July 17.
