Ashlee Simpson Plots First Album In 10 Years

It’s been a decade since the former reality star and pop-rock songstress Ashlee Simpson ruled the mid-aughts charts, but now the singer is primed to make a comeback with her first album since 2008’s Bittersweet World.
Ashlee Simpson-Ross is also making a return to the small screen, starring in a reality show along with her husband Evan Ross, Diana Ross’ son, titled Ashlee + Evan airing this fall on 9 September on E!.
The upcoming six-episode docu-series will track the couple’s creative process as they write and record their first duet album together, as well as their chaotic home life raising a family. Earlier this year, Simpson-Ross told People magazine, “It’s been 10 years for me where I’ve just been ‘mommy.’ It’s been an amazing 10 years but now we’re getting back into music”.
Mr Ross, who currently stars (and performs) in the Fox musical series, Star will bring a more soulful side to the album. The couple has reportedly recorded a series of duets inspired by those performed by Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye in the 70s – reports The New York Times. They also plan on releasing a new track with each episode of the show.
This won’t be the first time the singer’s songwriting process has been captured on tape. Simpson-Ross became a reality breakout star with MTV’s The Ashlee Simpson Show, which followed the making of and release of her smash debut album, Autobiography in 2004. The album went triple platinum, thanks to success of her infectiously catchy singles, ‘Pieces Of Me’, ‘Shadow’, ‘La La’ and the synergistic magic of her show.
Simpson-Ross’ last release was the 2012 electro-pop cut, ‘Bat for a Heart’ and since then has focused primarily on her family life. In March of this year, The New York Times kicked off something of an Ashlee Simpson renaissance, with their two-part podcast series ‘Was Ashlee Simpson Underappreciated?’, which elicited a passionate discussion on social media.
Ashlee + Evan will air on E! in the US starting 9 September and streaming on hayu in the UK and Ireland.
