Ariana Grande Teases New Single, ‘Positions’
The song will drop on Friday, ahead of Grande’s forthcoming album.
Ariana Grande is dropping a new single, “Positions,” this Friday, October 23. The pop star shared black-and-white cover art for the track, alongside a pre-save link earlier today. The announcement comes a week after Grande surprised fans with the news that her sixth studio album will be released this month.
Grande has kept fans on their toes over the past few weeks, sharing cryptic videos on Instagram, and even a short clip of a vocal track. Over the weekend, she posted a slow-motion video of a keyboard, while she typed out “Positions.”
Her website, meanwhile, offers a countdown clock to “Positions,” as well as another countdown to October 30 – presumably the release date of her forthcoming album, along with a presave link.
“Positions” follows Grande’s collaborative singles with Justin Bieber (“Stuck with U”) and Lady Gaga (“Rain on Me”), both of which debuted at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 – making Grande the new record-holder for the most No.1 debuts on the chart (Mariah Carey and Drake were previously tied with three singles at top of the chart).
Both singles garnered Grande wins at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards, including Video of the Year (“Rain on Me”) and the inaugural Best Video from Home for “Stuck with U.”
Grande’s latest album will follow her Grammy-nominated 2019 LP, Thank U, Next. The multi-platinum-selling title broke numerous streaming records and landed at No.1 in over 15 countries, including the US, UK, Canada, and Australia.
Thank U, Next was also widely acclaimed and landed on a range of year-end lists, including those by the BBC, the New York Times, NPR, Pitchfork, Billboard, and Rolling Stone, which ranked the LP at the top of its “50 Best Albums of 2019” list, and at No. 30 in its “100 Best Albums of the 2010s” list.
