Rising Punjabi Superstar AP Dhillon Signs to Republic Records
The singer, rapper, and producer celebrates the partnership with a new single, ‘Old Money.’
AP Dhillon, India’s superstar singer, rapper, and producer, has signed to Republic Records in alliance with Universal Music Canada. The announcement is accompanied by a new single titled “Old Money,” which showcases the new leader in Punjabi music’s versatile flow.
”Old Money” arrives with an action-packed music video starring Bollywood icons Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt. Dhillon co-directed the video alongside Shauna Gautam.
Says Dhillon of the single, “‘Old Money’ is the perfect way for me to start my next era, especially with going big for the music video. I came up with a concept that was influenced by all my favorite action movies, and Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt showed up and killed it. I hope you love it as much as I do.”
Republic founder and Chairman Monte Lipman says of the signing, “AP Dhillon is not only an incredible artist who continues to defy gravity in real time, but a shrewd visionary with a global reach that has already sparked a cultural revolution.”
Dhillon echoes this excitement, saying, “Republic Records always saw the vision. They got and understood who I am from day one. We’re all in harmony when it comes to this new music, and now I just can’t wait to show everybody what we’ve been cooking up.”
The India-born Dhillon began making music after emigrating to Vancouver Island, Canada, as a college student in 2015. After teaching himself how to produce using YouTube tutorials, he began releasing music in 2019. Dhillon’s 2020 track “Brown Munde” (which translated to “Brown Boys” in Punjabi) has become beloved as an anthem speaking to the universal struggles of immigrants. The song’s video, which showcases the lives of working immigrants, has garnered nearly 700M views on YouTube.
In 2021, Dhillon embarked on his first tour in India and later brought his music around the world, selling out many major venues. In 2023, he released the tour documentary, AP Dhillon: First Of A Kind, for Amazon Prime. That same year, he performed his track “Summer High” at the Juno Awards, making him the first Punjabi language artist to perform at the Canadian equivalent of the Grammys.
