Canadian singer-songwriter Alessia Cara dropped a surprise new single, ‘Ready’, a summer-ready track off her forthcoming EP, This Summer.
Although it’s only been eight months since the release of her sophomore effort The Pains of Growing, Cara is already back in the studio and announced her plans for rolling out new music in the next few weeks.
The 23-year-old pop prodigy shared the origins behind the EP with her fans on social media writing, “caught the writing bug out of the blue and made an EP… it’s called This Summer”.
The pop singer will be delivering a new track each week leading up the EP’s release on 6 September. Despite the single’s breezy tone and reggae-pop groove, Cara sings about reaching a breaking point in a relationship, a far cry from her ode introverts on ‘Here’ back in 2015.
“You start a million fires just to see what they can do/but then you freeze up like winter season in June,” she sings.
After releasing her debut album Know-It-All in 2015, Cara’s single ‘Scars to Your Beautiful’ reached No.8 on the Billboard 200 chart in the US. Two years later, Cara gained further recognition after collaborating with DJ and producer Zedd and earning a feature in rapper Logic’s song about suicide prevention, ‘1-800-273-8255’.
By 2018, Cara became the first Canadian artist to ever win the Grammy Award for Best New Artist, in addition to receiving several nominations at the American Music Awards and Billboard Music Awards.
The pop vocalist is still currently opening for Shawn Mendes during his North American tour trek, which runs until 6 September, with its final performance in Toronto, Ontario.
Additionally, Cara announced her US headlining dates for ‘The Pains of Growing’ Tour, with special guest Ryland James. The tour kicks off on 21 October in Boston, Massachusetts and will wrap up 20 November in Houston, Texas. Tickets go on sale this Friday, 26 July.
