ABBA’s ‘Voulez-Vous’ Album Gets Multi-Format 40th Anniversary Reissues

ABBA’s vintage 1979 album Voulez-Vous will mark its 40th anniversary with a multi-format reissue, including coloured vinyl and picture discs, on 14 June. The group’s sixth studio LP, first released on 23 April that year during one of their most successful periods of global chart dominance, included numerous hit singles and was itself a No. 1 in many countries around Europe. It also reached the top 20 in the US and was their fifth consecutive Swedish chart-topper.

Polar Music, via UMG, will present as anniversary reissues a 2LP half-speed master on 180 gram vinyl, mastered at Abbey Road and cut at 45rpm; a coloured-vinyl seven-inch box set, gathering the album’s singles ‘Voulez-Vous,’ ‘Summer Night City,’ ‘I Have A Dream,’ ‘Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight),’ ‘Does Your Mother Know,’ ‘Chiquitita’ and the extended dance mix of ‘Voulez-Vous’; and each single will also be released as a limited-edition standalone picture disc.

The release of Voulez-Vous ended one of the longest gaps between album releases for the group, coming 16 months after ABBA: The Album. The 1979 et was recorded across an entire year, with Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus reaching a new level of sophistication in their songwriting, while Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad delivered some of their finest vocals.
