New MIKA DVD Announced: ‘Sinfonia Pop’
Known for his ambitious, expansive pop, it was perhaps only a matter of time before MIKA performed with an orchestra. Due for release on DVD, Blu-ray and digital formats on 27 May, Sinfonia Pop captures the British singer-songwriter in the suitably elegant Teatro Sociale, a 19th-century venue in Como, Italy. Backed by a full orchestra conducted by prominent Canadian composer/orchestra leader Simon Leclerc, the performance recreated three concerts that MIKA had staged with Leclerc in Montreal in 2014. The Como show, filmed in October 2015, sees MIKA perform tracks from his most recent album, No Place In Heaven, along with a generous helping of fan favourites from throughout his whole career.
It doesn’t seem like 10 years ago that MIKA burst onto the pop scene with his debut single, ‘Relax, Take It Easy’, before becoming a household name with its follow-up, ‘Grace Kelly’ – the second British single to top the charts on download sales alone. Having notched up five UK Top 10 singles alongside four albums (among them the UK No.1 Life In Cartoon Motion and the UK Top 5 and US Top 20 entry The Boy Who Knew Too Much), MIKA has also recorded high-profile collaborations with the likes of Pharrell Williams (‘Celebrate’) and Ariana Grande (‘Popular Song’), while No Place In Heaven saw him back in the UK Top 20.
As well as capturing the entirety of MIKA’s unique performance at Teatro Sociale, Sinfonia Pop includes an interview with both MIKA and Simon Leclerc, revealing all the work that went into staging such an elaborate show.
