Emmylou’s Stellar Celebration On CD, DVD, Blu-Ray
The all-star tribute concert celebrating the work of Emmylou Harris is now a CD, DVD and Blu-ray disc. The Life & Songs of Emmylou Harris: An All-Star Concert Celebration, which took place at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, DC in January, 2015 and was released in the US yesterday (11) by Rounder.
Harris was joined at the event by a remarkable line-up of friends, fans and kindred musical spirits, who assembled to pay their respects to the great country and Americana artist. Her time with country-rock pioneer Gram Parsons was marked by such interpretations as Steve Earle‘s version of ‘Sin City’ and Lucinda Williams‘ ‘Hickory Wind,’ while Emmylou’s former Hot Band member and frequent collaborator Rodney Crowell offered the Byrds song that she performed in early days of coffee shop gigs, ‘You’re Still On My Mind.’
‘Two More Bottles of Wine,’ from Harris’ 1978 album Quarter Moon In A Ten Cent Town, was remade by Vince Gill and Sheryl Crow; Gill also sang ‘Together Again’ and duetted with Mary Chapin Carpenter on ‘All The Roadrunning,’ the title song from Emmylou’s album of duets with Mark Knopfler. Alison Krauss revived Crowell’s composition ‘Till I Gain Control Again,’ which Harris did on her 1975 release Elite Hotel; Lee Ann Womack presented ‘Born To Run’ and Kris Kristofferson performed his own ‘Loving Her Was Easier (Than Anything I’ll Ever Do Again).’
The release also featured appearances by Martina McBride, Shawn Colvin, Daniel Lanois, Patty Griffin, Chris Hillman, Herb Pedersen, Coner Oberst, Mavis Staples, Iron & Wine, Holly Williams, the Milk Carton Kids, Shovels & Rope and others, while the stellar house band boasted such notable names as Don Was, Buddy Miller, Sam Bush and Sara Watkins. Harris herself sings on several numbers, and joins the entire cast on her own ‘Boulder To Birmingham.’ Watch the trailer for the album below.
