Hear Smokey & Elton Duet
Smokey Robinson and Elton John’s duet version of ‘The Tracks Of My Tears,’ which leads off the Motown legend’s new album ‘Smokey & Friends,’ out on Verve later this month, is available to listen to in full now. We also have a clip of Elton talking about his love of the song and Smokey’s writing for you to watch.
‘The Tracks Of My Tears’ was a No. 2 R&B hit for Smokey and the Miracles in 1965, also reaching the pop top 20. It became the group’s first UK top ten hit as a reissue in 1969. It’s often described as the greatest pop song ever written, a view that Elton doesn’t disagree with in the clip. He also explains that Robinson’s songwriting has been a part of his life since he was an enthusiastic teenage record-buyer.
Smokey responds to Elton’s praise by saying: “My dream and my aim as a songwriter is fulfilled with statements like that, especially by someone like Elton, who is a great songwriter himself.”
Smokey has a busy live schedule in North America throughout August, including a show at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles on the 16th. He also has a show at the Eventim Apollo in London on November 23.
