Rolling Stones Insider Matt Clifford Signs New Publishing Deal
Matt Clifford, the musician, producer and arranger who’s played an integral role with the Rolling Stones since the late 1980s, has signed a new publishing deal with Warner/Chappell Music, the publishing arm of Warner Music Group. Clifford is a longtime collaborator with Mick Jagger on his solo work and is a familiar figure to Stones fans as a touring keyboard player with the band alongside Chuck Leavell and on the band’s albums. That relationship goes back as far as the Steel Wheels album and tour in 1989. In July, Jagger unveiled the new solo tracks ‘England Lost’ and ‘Gotta Get A Grip,’ both written with Clifford.
In 2015, Clifford wrote ‘Look Into Your Heart,’ performed by Jagger, fellow Stone Ronnie Wood and British R&B singer Beverley Knight, to raise funds for victims of the Nepal earthquake. He’s also worked with Brad Paisley, Richard Ashcroft, Jon Anderson, Francoise Hardy and many others.
Clifford arranged and produced the music for the UEFA Champions League, which led to composing the themes for the UEFA Cup, UEFA SuperCup, the Six Nations Anthem, the official broadcast music for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the World Boxing Super Series theme and many other sports properties. His movie soundtrack credits include The Return of the Living Dead and The Basket Case.
