Kendrick Lamar, Ed Sheeran, Pink and Zayn & Taylor Swift were among the big names scooping prizes at last night’s 2017 MTV Music Video Awards in Los Angeles.

As per usual, the ceremony – one of the most coveted and anticipated industry events of the year – was a star-studded affair. Taking place at the Forum in L.A, the 2017 event was hosted by Katy Perry and featured an impressive array of talent, with performances by Kendrick Lamar, Fifth Harmony, Miley Cyrus, Lorde, The Weeknd, Ed Sheeran, Thirty Seconds To Mars, Shawn Mendes, Pink and a special collaboration between Rod Stewart and DNCE for ‘Do Ya Think I’m Sexy’.

In addition, the video for Taylor Swift’s much-discussed new single ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ debuted, while Katy Perry also performed ‘Swish Swish’ with Nicki Minaj. Perry was up for five nominations, including Best Collaboration and Best Pop, but 2017’s big winner was Kendrick Lamar. Nominated in 8 categories, Lamar walked away with no less than 5 for ‘HUMBLE’ – scooping the awards for Video Of The Year, Best Hip Hop, Best Cinematography, Best Direction and Best Visual Effects.

Elsewhere, Ed Sheeran beat off strong challenges from Kendrick Lamar, Ariana Grande, Lorde, The Weeknd and Bruno Mars to scoop the Artist Of The Year award.  Sheeran’s ‘Shape Of You’ was also in the running for the Song Of Summer – along with Daddy Yankee and Luis Fonsi feat. Justin Bieber’s ‘Despacito (Remix)’ and more – but in the end, the award went to Lil Uzi Vert’s ‘XO Tour Llif3’.

Zayn & Taylor Swift, meanwhile, were victorious, with their ‘I Don’t Wanna Live Forever (Fifty Shades Darker)’ winning the Best Collaboration Award ahead of stiff opposition from The Chainsmokers ft. Halsey, Charlie Puth ft. Selena Gomez, Dj Khaled ft. Rihanna & Bryson Tiller, D.R.A.M ft Lil Yachty and ‘Feels’ from Calvin Harris ft. Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry and Big Sean.

Katy Perry, Ed Sheeran, Shawn Mendes and Harry Styles also missed out in the Best Pop category, which went to Fifth Harmony ft. Gucci Mane for ‘Down’.  Khalid, meanwhile, scooped the Best New Artist award, while Zedd and Alessia Cara broke through to win the Best Dance category with ‘Stay.’

Coldplay, Foo Fighters, Fall Out Boy and Green Day were among the nominees in the Best Rock category, though the 2017 award was eventually carried off by Twenty One Pilots for ‘Heavydirtysoul’, while Young Thug’s ‘Wyclef Jean’ (edited by Ryan Staake and Eric Degliomini) won the Best Editing award and Pink received the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.

Perhaps the year’s most controversial category was the Best Fight Against The System awards. In the running were Logic ft. Damian Lemar Hudson, The Hamilton Mixtape, Big Sean, Alessia Cara, Taboo ft. Shellene Woodley and John Legend and on the night, all these artists were deemed winners of the category.
