Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has revealed that the band have pre-recorded a series of Apple Music shows for the popular radio station.

In the new Beats 1 shows, Ulrich has assumed the role of interviewer as he grills fellow bandmates vocalist/guitarist James Hetfield, guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo.

Confident the shows are a scintillating listen, Ulrich confessed: “I listened to Kirk’s episode yesterday, and it’s definitely unlike anything that Metallica fans have ever heard.”

“Each of them [his Metallica bandmates] put together a playlist that reflects certain elements of their past,” Ulrich continued. “Stuff from back in the day and stuff that helped shape who they are musically.”

As reported on uDiscover, Ulrich previously took to the airwaves to host Beats 1 show ‘It’s Electric!’ during May 2017. Of these forthcoming Metallica specials, he confessed his confidence is rooted in his own experience of interviewing his bandmates. The band member himself says he even “learned a lot” from the process.

Recorded during Metallica’s WorldWired tour, one hour has been dedicated to each member of the band. Kirk Hammett’s episode airs Sunday July 30, with Trujillo’s airing on August 6 and Hetfield’s on August 13th.

Ulrich particularly enjoyed learning about guitarist Hammett’s musical influences.

He told Rolling Stone: ‘He has a very analytical mind about music. His cast the net very wide with his playlist, so it goes from Iron Maiden to The Beatles to John Coltrane to Radiohead.

“I’m not gonna bulls**t you. We don’t sit around and necessarily have conversations about John Coltrane on a day-to-day basis. So it’s fun for me to reconnect with all the fellas again.”

Metallica’s WorldWired tour continues in North America during August, with the dates including a huge show at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park on 12 August with Queens Of The Stone Age.  The band then head for Europe, where their extensive, 37-date tour kicks off with a show at the Royal Arena, Copenhagen, Denmark on 2 September.  Their itinerary also includes two shows at London’s 02 Arena on 22 and 24 October.

It great to hear Hammett has a verity in ‘real life.’ So many great bands have been shelf’d that most people born after 1975 (and before) have not been privy to soooooo many great albums or songs that laid the ground work for
Maximum Rythem and Blues (to steal it from The Who). To name a few:
Captain Beefheart, Gang of Four, Blind Faith, The Clash. The Kinks, The Yardbirds, XTC, Wire, Motown ( to many to name, thank you Berry Gordy),
Eddie Cochran, Elvis. To name a scratch at the surface. There are so many left of: Love’s: Forever Chanes, The Kinks :Muswell Hillbillies, The Village Green Preservation Society, Lola Vs PowerMan, and the Money go Round,
Miles Davis: Newport Jazz Festival 1958, A Tribute to Jack Johnson, Bitches Brew.. to name a few.
It is great to know them myself, however there is a whole history of music that the modern groups are unaware exist.
I do give props’ to some magazines’ that have made lists of great albums, yet so many go by the waist side.
    Hopefully, even the Mighty Metallica acknowledges at least some more;
as for me, I left out: The Velvet Underground, Solo John Cale, Lou Reed, The New York Dolls, And Johnny Thinders after they broke up.
Again, I could go on and on…. if you love variety ( the spice of life) go out there and find some of these older bands and give them a listen, and you’ll begin to understand that Rock n Roll was first proceeded by black men fro, the USA.
And that it was not a white sound, but a world sound.
Go out and buy a few older albums, or find your aunt’s and uncles, cousins, even your parents collection and see that music varies, and to not be open minded about other sounds, YOU ARE MISSING OUT ON A WHOLE LOT OF GREAT MUSIC.
Thank you Lars, for trying to expand the limits that are put on one’s self without knowing what you are missing.
