New Material From The Killers Being Mixed By Dave Fridmann

A new album from The Killers appears to be coming close to completion, according a post on producer Dave Fridmann’s website in which he says he is “doing a mix for The Killers”.

Fridmann has previously produced material for The Flaming Lips and MGMT as well as Lonerism for Tame Impala, but while his mixing work with The Killers seems to imply new material is imminent, nothing has yet been confirmed.

However, drummer Ronnie Vannucci did recently reveal to the NME that a new Killers record – the long-awaited follow-up to 2012’s Battle Born – is almost ready.

“It’s sounding good”, he said.  “We have a problem with taking two steps forward and one step back, so that makes it take longer.  We keep asking ourselves ‘What does a four-piece band do? How do you keep it fresh?’ It’s a constant exercise in experimentation.”

Vocalist Brandon Flowers then added: “How should a band sound in 2017?”

Vannucci continued: “We’re trying to arrive at something we’re all just a little bit uncomfortable with.  When everyone is slightly uncomfortable, then we know we’re there. We’re just pushing it in different directions, then bringing it back and trying another direction.”

The Killers formed in 2001 in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Their multi-million-selling debut album, 2004’s Hot Fuss topped the UK charts, a feat equalled by each of the band’s subsequent albums Sam’s Town (2006), Day & Age (2008) and 2012’s Battle Born.  The band have been recording their as-yet unnamed new album with Dave Fridmann and Jacknife Lee, with sessions taking place in Las Vegas, San Diego, Los Angeles and Joshua Tree.

The Killers headline the forthcoming Barclaycard British Summer Time event at London’s Hyde Park on Saturday, 8 July 2017.  They will be supported at the show by Elbow, Tears For Fears, White Lies, Cold War Kids, British Sea Power, Mew, Mystery Jets and The Strypes.
