Mick Jagger & Buddy Guy Together On New Rolling Stones Cover

Mick Jagger makes a guest appearance on a new version of the Rolling Stones’ ‘Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker),’ from their 1973 album Goats Head Soup, by blues giant and longtime Stones ally Buddy Guy.

The new rendition is on an exclusive CD called Chicago Plays the Stones, which features Chicago blues musicians covering 12 Rolling Stones songs. It’s a collaboration between Grammy-nominated producer Larry Skoller’s Raisin’ Music Records and Chicago Blues Experience, which is scheduled to open in the city in 2019.

Guy has opened on Stones tours and collaborated with the band on stage, but this is thought to be their first non-live recording. Jagger heard about the project via various connections including the Stones’ longtime producer Don Was, and offered to record vocals and harmonica in a London studio to add to Guy’s recording, which was made in an Arizona studio.

The CD is available, as a deluxe package with an original art poster, at chicagoplaysthestones.com; at the Stones’ Exhibitionism, the touring exhibit that opened at Chicago’s Navy Pier last month and runs there until July; and at local Whole Foods stores in the city. Half of profits from CD sales will benefit Chicago Blues Experience Foundation, which is the nonprofit arm of the museum.

Of Jagger’s measured performance on the track, Sona Wang, CEO of Chicago Blues Experience, said: “He didn’t want to override Buddy’s presence. He complemented [Guy] in a respectful way.” Other covers on Chicago Plays the Stones include John Primer’s version of ‘Let It Bleed,’ Billy Boy Arnold’s ‘Play With Fire’ and Ronnie Baker Brooks’ ‘(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.’
