The arts space was the perfect setting for the singer, whose has spent his career supporting fellow local talent from his hometown.
“Our mission is to empower young entrepreneurs with the tools, programming, mentorship, network, funds, and freedom they need to activate their talent and translate it into a sustainable career that promotes industry innovation,” the Hxouse mission statement reads.
The mentoring and incubator space was founded by Tesfaye’s close friend and the creative director at XO music label La Mar Taylor, who has also produced several music videos and album covers for the Grammy Award winner.
After the new initiative was announced, The Weeknd teased the plans on Twitter, writing, “We’re building a house for the city”.
Earlier in the year, The Weeknd had dropped his surprise album My Dear Melancholy, an EP and follow-up to 2016 album Starboy, which saw a welcomed return to his bedroom pop roots.
After he wrapped his performance the singer tweeted: “some chapters are smaller than others. not this next one though…”
The Weeknd also celebrated the fifth anniversary of his 2013 album Kiss Land with double LP reissue on green colour vinyl and limited-edition merchandise and later headlined Coachella opposite Beyoncé.
