Calum Scott has announced his third album. Titled Avenoir, the record is due out on September 12 via Capitol Records. Scott also released a lead single alongside the announcement, “God Knows.” He produced the track with frequent collaborators Jon “MAGS” Maguire and The Nocturns, the latter of whom has worked with Jax Jones and Tiësto. It was partially recorded at the Peter Gabriel-founded Real World Studios in Corsham.

Describing the song’s origin, Scott shared, “This song came from a pretty rough patch in a relationship and is for anyone who has made mistakes, said things in anger or upset, or pushed people away. Sometimes we don’t realize what we have until it’s gone. I wrote ‘God Knows’ as an unapologetic and desperate act of love to want to make things right again.”

The title Avenoir is drawn from John Koenig’s The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows, wherein its defined as “the desire that memory can flow backward.” Its release follows a series of high-profile performances from Scott, including an opening slot on the Asian and European legs of Ed Sheeran’s Mathematics Tour and his own headlining US run, The Songbook So Far Tour. In March 2024, he also played a special one-off show at London’s Eventim Apollo.

Avenoir marks Scott’s first new release since 2022’s Bridges. That record followed his multi-platinum 2018 debut Only Human, which went No. 1 in over 20 different territories. Scott is perhaps best known for his BRIT-nominated cover of Robyn’s “Dancing On My Own” which spent 15 weeks in the Top 10 and became one of the bestselling singles of 2016.

In a statement about his new album, Scott explains, “Avenoir refers to how we move through life like a rower moves: always moving forward but facing backward, seeing where we’ve been, but not where we’re going. The songs on this album speak to both regret and sorrow, and to undying love — a plea to live life to its fullest.”
