François De Roubaix’s ‘La Scoumoune’ Soundtrack To Receive Vinyl Reissue
The seminal soundtrack will arrive on April 11.

The soundtrack for the Jean-Paul Belmondo-starring 1972 crime thriller La Scoumoune is set to receive a vinyl reissue on April 11.
The score stands out as an Everest of electronic music in cinema. It is one of the objective masterpieces by François de Roubaix, a pioneer, experimenter, and genius tinkerer.
de Roubaix recorded himself on each track with a different instrument for this unique score. At the request of filmmaker José Giovanni, de Roubaix found connections between the barrel organ and synthesizers, complemented by unusual effects from rattles, files, and springs.
Presented with the score, Giovanni expressed his enthusiasm: “I love this catchy and naive refrain, with its underground gravity.” The theme of La Scoumoune would emancipate itself from the film, living its own life as a jingle or advertising tune, and regularly sampled by artists from rappers, DJs, and more.
This complete version of La Scoumoune celebrates the innovative and instinctive genius of François de Roubaix, marking the 50th anniversary of his passing.
The film tells the story of a mobster named Roberto La Rocca (Belmondo) who comes to Marseille in the mid-1930s to assist a friend who was framed by the local crime bosses.
