Alejandro Fernández To Receive Award And Perform At Univisión’s Premio Lo Nuestro
The regional Mexican icon will be honored with the Premio a la Excelencia Award, recognizing his contributions to Mexican music and Latino culture.
Alejandro Fernández will make his grand return to Univisión’s Premio Lo Nuestro this year. Fernández, a titan in the field of regional Mexican music, will perform at the 37th installment of the awards show, which will air live on Univisión at 7 p.m. ET on Feb. 20 from the Kaseya Center in Miami. Additionally, during the show he’ll receive the Premio a la Excelencia Award, recognizing his contributions to Mexican music and Latino culture.
Fernández boasts five nominations this year. His Anitta duet “La Tóxica” is up for the Perfect Mix of the Year and Mariachi/Ranchera Song of the Year, while “La Cumbia Triste,” his song with Los Ángeles Azules, is nominated for Mexican Music – Collaboration of the Year. His album Te Llevo en la Sangre is a contender for Mexican Music – Album of the Year, and Fernández himself could take home Male Artist of the Year in addition to his Premio a la Excelencia honors.
Te Llevo en La Sangre, Fernández’s 17th studio album, previously won the 2024 Latin Grammy for Best Ranchero/Mariachi Album, one of his four Latin Grammy wins. His recent single “No Me Se Rajar” became his 11th No. 1 hit on Billboard’s Regional Mexican chart, the most by any solo artist this decade. Other accolades for Fernández include the American Music Awards’ Icon Award, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and entry into the Billboard Hall of Fame.
Fernández has kept up that level of success for more than 30 years. He’s the first artist to have albums debut at No. 1 in four consecutive decades—the 1990s, 2000s, 2010s, and 2020s—and in 2009, in another unprecedented feat, he saw three of his albums debut simultaneously in the top 10. He’s also racked up 8 billion all-time views on YouTube and is recording 900 million streams a year on Spotify.
